Total Off Road Control - TORC™
An exciting feature made possible by the unique way the IVT controls the powertrain is
Total Off Road Control TORC™. This new feature changes the way in which 4x4 vehicles can be driven off-road by providing the following functionality.
- Total control on steep gradients
- Centimetre by centimetre vehicle position control
- Anti-roll back
High overdrive
One of the reasons the IVT enables high fuel economy is its ability to run the engine at a low speed when the vehicle is cruising.
Validation testing
Vehicles fitted with IVTs have undergone a considerable amount of development testing.
The stability of the transmission and it’s ability to cope with the rapid changes in torque demand can be seen from these tests on irregular sets (one or two inch raised bricks).
As well as demonstrating the robustness of the transmission this shows how well the IVT is suited to off road applications. The IVT can effortlessly cope with the torque spikes that are loaded on the transmission when a vehicle drives over a rough terrain.
High ‘g’ braking
An IVT fitted vehicle is able to brake severely and drive away immediately due to the fact that it does not have to release the clutch.
