Four Wheel Drive cars and SUVs
The IVT is applicable to Four Wheel Drive (4WD) cars and Sports Utility Vehcles (SUVs) and provides the following additional benefits. Possible Elimination of Low Range gearing Traditionally, 4WD vehicles utilise an additional 2-speed transmission located behind the main transmission. Called a Transfer box, this provides a 'Low Range' gear to aid 'Off-Road' driving. The infinitely variable ratio of the IVT, together with the low speed control characteristics can possibly eliminate the need for the additional gearing. Hence, the low range components can be eliminated from the transfer case to deliver both a cost and weight saving whilst providing additional functionality. Total Off Road Control - TORC™ An exciting feature made possible by the unique way the IVT controls the powertrain is Total Off Road Control TORC™. This new feature changes the way in which 4WD vehicles can be driven off-road by providing the following functionality. - Total control on steep gradients.
- Centimetre by centimetre vehicle position control.
- Anti-roll back.
