Environment
Torotrak is an intellectual property company whose activities are focused on the research, development and commercialisation of full-toroidal traction drive technology which offers improvements in fuel economy and emissions for on- and off-highway vehicle applications. At the core of our activities therefore is the objective of making positive changes to the environment.
Our premises consist mainly of offices and test facilities. Our operations are therefore of low environmental impact.
We do not provide company cars. Many employees live locally and choose to cycle to work. We encourage this through the provision of facilities for cyclists.
Wherever possible, we adopt initiatives to lesson our environmental impact.
Our principal ‘end products’ are patents, design rules, models, know-how and the transfer of knowledge to our licensees.
Our premises are composed mainly of offices and test facilities. ‘Resources’ principally comprise employees and equipment. They do not involve any hazardous substances or complex waste. Our operations are therefore 'low impact' in environmental terms.
The Group does not provide company cars. The provision of facilities for cyclists encourages greener commuting; we participate in the 'Cycle to Work' initiative which effectively subsidises the cost of purchasing a bicycle. The scheme was set up by the UK Government to encourage people to use bicycles as a means of transport to and from their place of work.
Telephone and video conferencing are used extensively, providing alternatives to international travel. Wherever possible the Group continues to adopt initiatives to lessen our environmental impact.
Torotrak’s environmental policy is to:
- Meet the statutory requirements placed on the Group
- Apply best practice on environmental issues to minimise the impact of our engineering, build and test functions
- Aim to recycle as much of the Group’s waste products as is economically practicable. Those items that cannot be recycled will be disposed of in an environmentally friendly way.
