Torotrak’s technology is based on the application of variable ratio drives using the principles of traction drive. At the heart of the technology is Torotrak’s full-toroidal variator which can be associated with various types of gearing to provide mainstream vehicle transmissions or to meet other power transmission requirements ranging from vehicle auxiliary drives through to kinetic energy recovery systems. Power is transmitted by shearing an elasto-hydro-dynamic oil film to transmit power across the discs and rollers of the variator.
