Auxiliary drives for improved engine efficiency

Torotrak’s innovative toroidal variable auxiliary drive (TVAD) technology creates the opportunity for engine manufacturers to optimise the efficiency and performance of many key engine ancillary systems to improve fuel economy and reduce emissions.

TVAD technology allows the drive ratio to be changed smoothly to ensure such ancillary systems are always running at their most appropriate speed, regardless of engine rpm. Using Torotrak’s design and development expertise, TVADs can be matched to each manufacturer’s application, improving powertrain efficiency and allowing increasingly restrictive emissions standards to be met.
