Applications

Being inherently scalable, Torotrak’s technology is suited to a wide range of applications, from small variable drives for engine auxiliary systems through to large, heavy-duty applications such as agricultural and construction equipment.

Specific applications include:

 Main drive transmissions for vehicles - particularly buses, trucks and small cars.  These transmissions are "gearless" and manage the engine at its most efficient operating condition, so as to improve fuel efficiency.  They also allow greater controllability and additional features compared to a standard geared automatic transmission.

Variable drive pressure charging that combines a supercharger with a Torotrak variable drive to produce a product unique to the market in being a more effective and cheaper solution to engine downsizing, which in turn allows vehicle manufacturers to improve fleet fuel economy.

Mechanical flywheels that recover braking energy that allow an affordable, environmentally friendly alternative to electric hybrid solutions.
